WFP URGES WORLD LEADERS TO FOCUS MORE ON HUNGER AND POVERTY IN AFGHANISTAN LONDON - As international leaders and donors gather here for the Conference on Afghanistan on Tuesday and Wednesday, the United Nations World Food Programme is calling on the world community to focus more of its energy and attention on the millions of poor and hungry people in Afghanistan.

INVOLVING MEN IN CREATING A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD FOR WOMEN ROME – The United Nations World Food Programme has chosen the theme of “Partnering with Men to Achieve Gender Equality” for this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD)*, to stress the importance of the two sexes working together to improve women’s lives around the world.

スーダン・ジュバ発−ＷＦＰは1月1１日、職員のエマニュエル・チャク・ジョセフ氏（２８）がスーダン南部で何者かによって殺害されたことを発表した。ここ数年でＷＦＰスタッフがスーダンで殺害されたのは初めてのことである。 ジョセフ氏はＷＦＰの現地ドライバーとして、ドイツ技術協力公社（GTZ）による道路建設プロジェクトに参加していた。殺害された日は、スーダン南部の都市・ジュバからトリトという町へ向かう途中であったが、途中で待ち伏せしていた何者かによって自動小銃による攻撃を受けた。この攻撃によって、同乗者のGTZ職員1名と、護衛に当たっていたスーダン人民解放軍（SPLA）の兵士2人が負傷した。 WFPは、自国の平和のために尽力してきたジョセフさんの死に深い悲しみを覚える。
