2022年、世界ではかつてないほどの食料危機に直面しており、気候危機、紛争、経済的負荷、新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響などが相まって世界で最大8億2,800万人もの人々が飢えや栄養不足に苦しんでいます。さらにウクライナ危機の影響は、食料不安の状況をさらに深刻化・長期化させており、来年も記録的な飢餓に陥るリスクがあるとされています。世界的な食料危機に直面しているなか、日本にいる多くの私たちにとって飢餓を身近に感じにくい面があります。しかし、飢餓は決して遠い国の問題ではありません。

BLEAKEST MALNUTRITION SITUATION IN SOMALIA IN YEARS - WFP & UNICEF NAIROBI - Recent outbreaks of fighting and the worst drought in a decade have pushed many people in Somalia to their limit, creating the bleakest malnutrition situation in years, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned today.

ロンドン発−WFPは、飢えと貧困に苦しむ人々への人道支援活動において、国際NGOのIslamic Reliefと今後さらに協力関係を強めることで合意した。Islamic Reliefとのパートナーシップ強化の背景には、WFPの支援を受ける人々の多くがイスラム社会に属している事実がある。WFPは年間平均で9,000万人に食糧支援をしているが、そのうちの半数以上がイスラム教徒である。一方でIslamic Reliefは、アフガニスタン、ケニア、ソマリアなど20カ国で活動し、草の根レベルでの地域密着型アプローチによりニーズへの迅速な対応力を発揮している。Islamic Reliefとのパートナーシップの強化で迅速かつ効率的な支援活動が推進される。
