ニカラグア・ホンジュラスでのハリケーン被災者に対し、緊急食糧支援開始 パナマ発　−　9月4日ニカラグアに上陸し、甚大な被害を引き起こしているハリケーン「フェリックス」の被災者に対し、WFPは豆、米、食用油、大豆とトウモロコシの混合食糧などを空輸し、緊急食糧支援を開始した。 ニカラグア北部では強風や建造物崩壊により、6万人もの人々が被害に遭っていると推定される。ゴルダナ・ジャーガーニカラグア副事務所長は、「こうした人々を助けるために、緊急支援を拡大する必要があり、一刻も早く拠出国からの支援が必要である」と述べている。 ハリケーンが発生した4日にはWFPは食糧支援を開始し、5日には、900人に対する10日間分に相当する4.5トンの食糧を空輸した。

WFP News Release 5 November 2006 ANOTHER SUCCESS FOR WORLD RECORD MARATHONER AND MILLIONS OF CHILDREN WORLDWIDE New York - The United Nations World Food Programme warmly congratulated its Ambassador against Hunger, top record holder Paul Tergat, on his performance today in New York where he finished third place in the world’s most prestigious marathon race.

スーダン・ジュバ発−ＷＦＰは1月1１日、職員のエマニュエル・チャク・ジョセフ氏（２８）がスーダン南部で何者かによって殺害されたことを発表した。ここ数年でＷＦＰスタッフがスーダンで殺害されたのは初めてのことである。 ジョセフ氏はＷＦＰの現地ドライバーとして、ドイツ技術協力公社（GTZ）による道路建設プロジェクトに参加していた。殺害された日は、スーダン南部の都市・ジュバからトリトという町へ向かう途中であったが、途中で待ち伏せしていた何者かによって自動小銃による攻撃を受けた。この攻撃によって、同乗者のGTZ職員1名と、護衛に当たっていたスーダン人民解放軍（SPLA）の兵士2人が負傷した。 WFPは、自国の平和のために尽力してきたジョセフさんの死に深い悲しみを覚える。

VIOLENCE ALONG CHAD/SUDAN BORDER THREATENS THOUSANDS N’DJAMENA – The United Nations World Food Programme warned today that an escalation of the violence that has forced thousands of people from their homes along the Chadian border with Sudan’s Darfur region could seriously impede humanitarian assistance. WFP currently feeds 207,400 Sudanese refugees housed in 12 camps inside Chad.

WORLD’S FIRST HUMANITARIAN INSURANCE POLICY ISSUED ADDIS ABABA – The United Nations World Food Programme announced today that AXA RE has been awarded the world’s first insurance contract for humanitarian emergencies. The contract provides US $7 million in contingency funding in a pilot scheme to provide coverage in the case of an extreme drought during Ethiopia’s 2006 agricultural season.
