High-Level Policy Dialogue on Strategic Investments in Africa: 

Rural Transformation and Sustainable Agriculture in the Digital Age

Global hunger is again on the rise following a prolonged decline. The number of people in the world affected by undernourishment, or chronic food deprivation, reached 821 million in 2017 – approximately one out of every nine people in the world. Prevalence of undernourishment remains the highest in Africa, affecting almost 21 percent of the population, while severe food insecurity is increasing in almost all regions of Africa. Conflict, climate change, demographic growth, out-migration and growing inequality together with high reliance on food exports amplify the challenge, disrupting food systems, ecosystems, economies and societies, and increasing people’s vulnerability.

"High-Level Policy Dialogue on Strategic Investments in Africa: Rural Transformation and Sustainable Agriculture in the Digital Age" will bring together selected High-Level leaders from across the continent of Africa, regional and international organizations and leading Japanese private companies and start-ups. The discussion will focus on exploring strategic investments in rural transformation and sustainable agriculture in the digital age in collaboration with the Japanese private sector as a part. The High-Level Policy Dialogue will also serve as an opportunity to review the crucial use of technology for innovative solutions which the Japanese government and private companies can support to secure jobs and help sustain growth within Africa.
